Oklahoma and the U.S. Drop Rig Counts

Rig counts for the U.S. and Oklahoma fell over the past week with Oklahoma losing four and the national count dropping by three, according to data released by Baker Hughes Company of Houston, Texas.

Oklahoma’s count slipped to 54 compared to the 105 oil and gas rigs the state had one year ago this week. Nationwide, the count is down to 421 and that includes a drop of 7 oil rigs and the addition of 4 gas rigs.

The total rig count for the U.S. is down 438 from the 859 working rigs reported last year at this time.  The number of oil rigs is down 298 and the total of gas rigs across the country is down 38 from a year ago.

Canada’s total count increased by 7 over the past week reaching 76.

Of the oil and gas plays in and around Oklahoma, the Granite Wash increased by one to reach 8, still far below the 14 rigs last year at this time. The Mississippian remained at four. The Ardmore Woodford fell by one to reach no working rigs this week, down from the 8 last year. The Arkoma Woodford has two rigs, same as last week. The Permian Basin, the nation’s most active and prolific play in West Texas, added four to reach 150, still down from the 231 a year ago. The Eagle Ford in south Texas remained at 34.

Colorado gained one rig to reach 17. Kansas stayed at two. New Mexico remained at 20 and Louisiana lost five to settle at 41. North Dakota added two to hit 26 and Texas picked up three more rigs to reach 194.
