Busy Week for U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee

Oklahoma Congressman Markwayne Mullin and other members of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee meet Tuesday to vote on reauthorization of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.

The measure would also direct the Administration to increase transparency and accountability and finish long overdue regulations. It is among numerous bills to be marked up including 9 measures from the Communications and Technology Subcommittee which seek to increase public safety and FCC transparency.

One such bill, called Kari’s Law act of 2015 would require that any multi-line telephone system connect directly to 911 when dialed, even in instances where the phone requires the user to dial “9” to get an outside line.

Another would allow skilled nursing facilities to apply for Universal Service Funding for communications services used to provide health care in rural communities. Still another, the Kelsey Smith Act would require telecommunications carriers to share location data if law enforcement believes that someone is in danger of death or serious harm.
