Democrats Criticize Governor for Not Discussing Earthquakes in Annual Address

Yes, OK Energy Today wasn’t the only one to notice how Governor Mary Fallin did not mention the word ‘earthquake’ in her Monday State of the State address. So did Democrats in the State House where Rep. Scott Inman, the House Minority Leader made mention of it in lambasting the governor’s proposals.

“Not only did she fail to mention this fiscally irresponsible tax cut which she adopted, she never addressed two 800-pound gorillas in the room,” he said after the governor’s address. “There are houses shaking all over the state and not one moment did she take to stand up and say earthquakes are shaking and damaging property values all over the state.”

But it caught the attention of Preston Doerflinger, the State Finance Secretary.

“This idea that the governor doesn’t care about what’s happening with earthquakes in the state couldn’t be further from the truth,” he said after the governor’s speech to the legislators. “She made the announcement last week that emergency fund money will be available. In this budget, they are held harmless.”
