If things go as planned by former Energy Secretary and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, his Fermi America company will build a 5,800 acre campus for AI data centers in the Texas Panhandle and power it with 11 gigawatts of electricity from nuclear, solar, wind and natural gas sources.
Fermi America partnered with the Texas Tech University system and announced it will build the world’s largest advanced energy and artificial intelligence campus. They plan to locate the 18-million square feet of AI data centers near the Pantex Plant in Amarillo.
“The Chinese are building 22 nuclear reactors today,” Perry said in the announcement.
“We’re behind, and it’s all hands on deck. No one does energy better than Texas, and Fermi America and the Texas Tech University System are answering the call.”
