Under DROGE, the Environmental Protection Agency has experienced some targeting for fraud and misspending, but the agency recently came through with more than $4 million for the construction of a new water tower in Seminole.
The EPA Region 6 office recently notified Seminole of the awarding of $4,351,281 in funding requested by Congresswoman Stephanie Bice in the FY2023 Appropriations Bill. The money will be used for a new water tower replacement with a capacity of 500,000 gallons.
As explained by Rep. Bice’s office, the project is an upgrade from the previous tower which was constructed in the 1930s and will increase water quality and capacity for the Seminole community. The current water tower also has lead pipelines and an overall poor rating, posing a health concern for the community.
“Working on the Appropriations Committee gives me the opportunity to upgrade and expand critical infrastructure needs in our communities. This water tower project will ensure that the Seminole community can continue to expand and grow while having access to reliable, safe water. I will continue to advocate for towns throughout the Fifth Congressional District of Oklahoma,” said Bice in a statement issued by her office.
Seminole Mayor Cory Crabtree was thankful for the help and called Rep. Bice a “champion for our citizens.”
“She spent quality time with our people after the May 2022 tornado and sympathized with the adversity we were facing. Out of those challenges the Congresswoman responded in a big way to relieve a major challenge. This water tower is critical to sustain our community and it ensures we have the opportunity to continue our growth.”
Seminole City Manager Steve Saxon said the water tower should serve the city for decades.
“Making this kind of generational investment represents what good governance can look like.”
