Rig counts remain steady in Oklahoma’s oil and gas plays

Oklahoma’s oil and gas plays managed to hold their own over the past week in terms of the number of active oil and gas rigs.

Baker Hughes reported no losses of rigs in the state and it included the Cana Woodford which remained at 18 for its count. It is Oklahoma’s most active play for rig activity. The Granite Wash, which extends into a few counties in the Texas panhandle remained at 13 active rigs.

The Ardmore Woodford was unchanged at 5 rigs while the Arkoma Woodford stayed at 2 rigs.

According to Baker Hughes, the nation’s most active play, the Permian Basin recorded a loss of 2 rigs, leaving 287 still seeking new sources of energy. The Permian was one of three major oil and gas plays across the U.S. to see a drop in total rigs.

The Eagle Ford in south Texas recorded a drop of one to 46 rigs while the Utica gas play in Ohio and Pennsylvania saw its count drop by 3 to 10 rigs.

Other oil and gas plays remained constant. The Williston in North and South Dakota was steady with a count of 33 rigs. The Marcellus was unchanged with 25 active rigs. The Haynesville was the nation’s only play to see any growth—one rig for a total of 33 active rigs.

The D-J Basin in Colorado and southern Wyoming was constant with 6 rigs. The Barnett in north Texas continued with 2 rigs and the Mississippian in northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas, based on the Baker Hughes report, continued for anothe week with no reported rig activity.
