Promoting natural gas in the name of electricity generation—it’s the centerpiece of a recent bill allowed by Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt to become law without his signature.
SB998 was also part of the negotiation for a budget agreement reached last week and announced by the governor and legislative leaders.
However, the issue of promoting natural gas was part of another measure in another state that was recently struck down by a judge. Voters in Seattle approved an initiative last fall whether or not utility companies should be restricted from promoting natural gas over renewable energy sources. Since it passed, utilities were allowed to promote natural gas usage but recently a state Superior Court judge ruled it violates the state’s constitution.
