Just as Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt and some legislators have taken a strong stand against the use of eminent domain for energy projects, the situation in the Iowa legislature became even more dramatic this week.
It’s when nine Republicans in the Iowa State Senate took the rare step of speaking against eminent domain and at the same time called on GOP leaders to allow debate on bills preserving the private property rights of those opposed to the Summit Carbon Solution pipeline on their land, reported Radio Iowa.
One Senator declared that the government is for individuals and not corporations while another called the use of eminent domain “unjust and unconstitutional.” Still another threatened to vote against any bills funding state government until the GOP leadership allows the senate to consider pipeline bills.
