Oklahomans like to boast of their state being the windiest in the country. And the March winds that sent wildfires out of control resulting in deaths and destruction of hundreds of homes no doubt added to the reputation. Plus, there were wind gusts of 70 and 80 mph.
A new report indicated that Spring this year across the nation was the windiest in half-a-century and Oklahoma was not among those states with record winds. The state recorded its third windiest March. The Washington Post reported it was the second windiest March on record across the contiguous United States overall, since the records used in this analysis began in 1940.
