Two Oklahoma oil and gas plays recorded increased drilling activity

 

 

Only three of the nation’s oil and gas plays saw increased drilling activity in the past week, according to the latest Baker Hughes rig count, and two of them are in Oklahoma.

The Nation’s rig count grew by 2 to reach 587 rigs and increases were recorded in the Granite Wash of Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle and the Arkoma Woodford. The third play across the nation to see an increase was the Haynesville. The Granite Wash count grew by two rigs for a total of 13. The Arkoma Woodford doubled its rig count, going from one last week to 2 this week. The Haynesville total grew by one to 32 rigs.

Oklahoma’s most active play is the Cana Woodford where the count dropped by one to a total of 18 rigs. A year ago, the Cana’s rig count was 22.

The most active play in the nation, the Permian Basin was unchanged at 289 rigs. The count a year ago was 317. The Eagle Ford remained at 47 rigs, still fewer than the 55 rigs a year ago. The Williston remained at 33 rigs and the Utica was unchanged at 13 rigs.

Activity in the Marcellus remained at 25 rigs, down from 4 a year ago. The D-J Basin was unchanged at 6 rigs and the Barnett remained at 2 rigs. The Ardmore Woodford, according to the Baker Hughes report, saw a decline of one rig, leaving 5 active in the play.
