Near record rainfall so far in April across Oklahoma

Oklahoma Mesonet Climatologist Gary McManus says the lack of rainfall in the northwestern part of the state along with the Panhandle is keeping this month from becoming a record amount.

Writing Wednesday in his latest Mesonet update, McManus pointed to the previous statewide rainfall record for April was 8.32 inches in 1942.

“We’re in second place right now with 8.08 inches, having just overtaken April 1957’s 8.04″,” wrote McManus, adding ta “few more deluges” on Wednesday and the state might make it.
A few more deluges today and we might make it.

Rainfall was expected to end Wednesday midnight but resume in the new few days.

Flooding of highways was reported in different areas of the state.
