** Tesla faces a proposed class action claiming it speeds up odometers on its electric vehicles so they fall out of warranty faster, saving Elon Musk’s company from having to pay for repairs. The plaintiff Nyree Hinton alleged that Tesla odometer readings reflect energy consumption, driver behavior and “predictive algorithms” rather than actual mileage driven.

** Tesla is scaling down its Cybertruck production goals and transferring some workers to other production lines, Business Insider reported. Cybertruck sales have slumped amid a slew of recalls and investor concerns over the future of the EV-maker.

** The Trump administration is opening a national marine monument to commercial fishing, it announced. The White House issued an executive order that allows for commercial fishing within the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument, a nearly 500,000 square mile area — double the size of the state of Texas — in the central Pacific Ocean.

** Valero Energy Corp saidit was taking a $1.1 billion pre-tax impairment related to its California refineries and told state regulators it would permanently shut or restructure its San Francisco-area refinery in Benicia, California by the end of April 2026.

** Ford Motor Company has announced a massive recall of more than 148,000 trucks and SUVs. sAccording to Automotive News, the two recalls encompass 148,266 vehicles and were announced by NHTSA on April 11, 2025. The largest recall affects 123,611 vehicles, according to the recall report.

** Starting May 1, electric vehicle owners in Pennsylvania will have to pay an annual fee — starting at $200 this year — to help fund road construction and repairs.

** American forces in the Middle East struck a major oil facility in western Yemen on Thursday — the first publicly acknowledged attack in weeks during the military’s ongoing airstrike campaign against the Houthis.

** India is reportedly planning to end duties on imports of ethane and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the U.S. as New Delhi negotiates a trade deal with Washington, Reuters reported on Apr. 16.
