Burgum wants to open federal lands to mining and drilling

U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, left, shared thoughts about opening up federal lands for rare earth mineral extraction, coal mining and drilling with Chris Helman, senior editor at Forbes Magazine, during the opening session of Powering AI Global Leadership Summit.

A plan by U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to open federal lands to mining and drilling has already drawn fire from opponents who say it’s all about corporate profits.

“This aren’t concerned about what our children lose from this,” said one in reaction to Burgum’s comments that came during the Powering AI Global Leadership Summit hosted by the OSU Hamm Institute for American Energy. Burgum spoke at Oklahoma City’s Skirvin Hilton Hotel where business executives, energy leaders, lawmakers and academics had gathered.

Burgum explained his plan is needed to address the national energy emergency declared by the President.
