Drilling activity holds firm in Oklahoma and the nation

 

The number of oil and gas rigs in Oklahoma held steady in the past week, staying at 49, according to the latest rig count provided by Baker Hughes Co.

While Oklahoma saw no change in drilling activity, the nation’s count remained firm as well, with only a loss of one rig, leaving 592 across the country. Baker Hughes reported the number of oil rigs was unchanged at 486 while the lone loss was a gas rig, resulting in 101. The number of miscellaneous stayed at 5.

Over the past year, the nation’s count declined by 30 from the 622 reported last year at this time. The decline included 18 oil rigs and 14 gas rigs while miscellaneous added 2.

The U.S. offshore rig count increased by one to 14.

Other states included Texas with a decline of one to 281 rigs and New Mexico was unchanged at 105. North Dakota continued with 32.

The Red Top Rig Report showed Kansas saw an increase of one to 16 rigs. Colorado’s count slipped one to 8 rigs. Louisiana stayed at 29 and Ohio saw no change with a count of 9. Pennsylvania remained at 15. Utah continued with 12 rigs. No change was recorded in West Virginia with 11 rigs. Wyoming’s count increased one to 21 rigs.
