Corporation Commission begins search for division director

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission has launched a search for a new director of its Oil & Gas Conservation Division.

Robyn Strickland, who for the past six years served as its director and that of the Commission’s Petroleum Storage Tank Division is moving to be director of the Storage Tank Division. This division delivers on its enforcement role of regulating more than 4100 motor fuel facilities and overseeing the safe operation of 10,041 petroleum storage tanks and 49, 913 motor fuel dispensers.

The Commission announcement explained an expansion of responsibilities for the Oil & Gas Conservation Division will require someone to focus totally on the division. The current regulatory climate will now require a full-time Director with extensive industry technical and scientific knowledge to take the technical regulation to the next level. Oklahoma continues to face challenges from historic operations, abandoned wells, and growing environmental concerns.

The Commission praised Strickland’s co-directional work in which she brought her management experience of creating a more lean and efficient Petroleum Storage Tank Division (PSTD) by leveraging technology and an advanced information management system to OGCD.

The announcement said during her time in serving the two divisions, she identified and reduced inefficient business practices impeding one of the agency’s regulatory roles. She helped develop the Mineral Owners Escrow (MOE) accounting software, agency administrative rules and related databases improving information for mineral owners and dramatically reducing the processing time for requests.

She embraced internal audit practices to ensure compliance with state purchasing laws and eliminate waste in the expenditure of public funds.

OCC is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Oil and Gas Conservation Division Director and its many departments. The job description, requirements, and salary information are available on the State Employment website.
