While some Oklahomans are fighting the growth of renewable energy projects in the state, Texas ranks as the state with the most development of wind and solar projects in the U.S.
Information from the U.S. Energy Information Administration showed Texas not only has 42,000 megawatts of wind power, 22,000 megawatts of solar farms and 6,500 megawatts of utility-scale battery capacity in place at the end of 2024, it also had installed nearly 80% more such capacity than the next largest state.
Reuters reported California had the next largest network of renewable generation followed by Florida, Arizona and Colorado in the top 5 list. Of states with wind power generation, Oklahoma ranked third behind number one Texas and number two Iowa.
