U.S. drilling rig activity remained mostly unchanged in the past week with a count of 589 rigs, according to the most recent Rig Report from Baker Hughes Co. It also showed Oklahoma’s count of 43 rigs was unchanged from the Dec. 27 week to Jan. 3.
The U.S. count included a loss of one oil rig to 482 while the gas rig total increased one to 103. The miscellaneous rig count was unchanged at 14.
Compared to a year ago, the nation’s current rig count is 32 less than the 622 and the loss included 19 oil rigs and 15 gas rigs while miscellaneous rigs grew by 2. The number of current offshore rigs is 14, down 6 from a year ago, reported Baker Hughes.
Oklahoma’s current count of 43 compared to 44 one year earlier. The most recent rig report showed Texas up one to 285 but still fewer than the 308 last year at this time. New Mexico stands at 103 with no change in the past week but more than the 97 rigs reported a year ago.
North Dakota is unchanged at 36 while Louisiana dropped by one to 30. Colorado stayed at 10 rigs. The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service showed Kansas added a rig for a total of 25.
Ohio stayed at 9 in the most recent Baker Hughes report. Pennsylvania saw no change with 15 rigs. Utah continued with 12 rigs and West Virginia stayed at 10. Wyoming was unchanged at 18 rigs.
