AG joins fight against Costco’s DEI program

If it’s not ESG, then it’s DEI in the workforce. Now Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond is among 19 Republican attorneys general calling on Costco Wholesale Corp. to end its workforce diversity policies.

They wrote a letter to Costco Chief Executive officer Ron Vachris stating that the company’s decision to defend its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are against the Ssupreme Court’s 2023 ruling against affimative action.

“Although Costco’s motto is “do the right thing,” it appears that the company is doing the wrong thing—clinging to DEI policies
that courts and businesses have rejected as illegal. Costco should treat every person equally and based on their merit, rather than based on divisive and discriminatory DEI practices,” stated Drummond and the other attorneys general.

“The Supreme Court said it best: “Eliminating racial discrimination
means eliminating all of it.” For the good of its employees, investors, and customers, Costco should “do the right thing” by following the law and repealing its DEI policies,” they added.
