Growing data center industry in Virginia might help Williams Cos. in pipeline expansion

Tulsa’s Williams Cos. might have support from the state of Virginia in the firm’s request of federal regulators to add another 55 miles of its 10,000 mile long Transco Pipeline.

The growing data center industry in Virginia, according to the Virginia Mercury, is driving unprecedented energy demand and “straining the state’s natural gas infrastructure and prompting calls for new pipelines.” The paper reported a Virginia Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission report issued a warning that expansion of the pipeline capacity could be necessary to meet the “surge, bringing with it additional logistical and environmental challenges.
