Tighter drilling restrictions on federal land announced by Biden administration
A confrontation between the Biden administration and re-elected President Donald Trump is in the making after the government announced plans Friday to create tighter restrictions on oil, solar and wind energy development in the name of protecting the greater sage grouse.
The new rules could be reversed, if adopted, with the arrival of Trump in the White House. During his first term in office, his administration tried to reduce the impact of Obama-era sage grouse protections and the fight ended in courts blocking the rules.
The Associated Press reported that most of the land at issue is in Nevada and California, according to government documents. Affected parcels also are in Wyoming, Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, Montana and the Dakotas.
