State set to award $1 million in contracts for EV charging network

US offers EVgo conditional $1.05 billion loan for EV chargers

Oklahoma prepares to hand out a more than $1 million contract award Monday for the EV charging network mandated by the Biden administration.

The State Transportation Commission, in its 11 a.m. meeting in Oklahoma City, will award the contracts to a number of successful bidders. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure or NEVI Charging Infrastructure contract awards will total $1,002,225.22.

The NEVI program was created by the Infrastructure Investment Jobs Act to help Oklahoma and other states in the mandatory buildout of the nationwide electrical vehicle infrastructure. Oklahoma issued a Request for Proposal to solicit bids for the construction, maintenance and operation of EV charging infrastructure.

The Commission is also expected to award $801,780.81 in federal funds for EVgo, an EV charging network locator. The EVgo in question is located on I-44 Exit 124. Those who use the charging stations will pay a tax of three cents per kilowatt hour as determined by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission on the electric current used to charge or recharge the battery of an electric vehicle.

The Oklahoma Transportation Commission’s monthly meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in the R.A. Ward Transportation Building, 200 N.E. 21st St., Oklahoma City.
