Rig counts by the shale plays

 

The shale plays across the country saw very little change in drilling activity over the past week, based on the latest rig count provided by Baker Hughes Co.

The Permian Basin, the nation’s largest play and with the highest number of drilling rigs in action was unchanged with a count of 303 rigs throughout West Texas and southeastern New Mexico.

Oklahoma’s drillling activity was also fairly unchanged with one rig still in the Ardmore Woodford while the Arkoma Woodford count dropped by one to one rig as well.

The Granite Wash, of which Oklahoma is a significant part, remained at 3 rigs. The Mississippian, based on the Baker Hughes rig count, still had no reported drilling activity.

Elsewhere, the Cana Woodford slipped by one to 20 rigs and the D-J Niobrara in Colorado and Wyoming remained at 7. The Eagle Ford of South Texas continued with a count of 48 rigs The Haynesville, where Expand Energy is quite active, was unchanged at 32 rigs. The Marcellus gained a rig to reach 25.

The Utica play stayed at 10 and the Williston continued with 35 rigs.
