Rig activity saw little change in the nation’s shale plays

As the nation’s oil and gas rig count was unchanged in the past week, it meant there were very few changes in rig activity in the U.S. oil and gas plays.

The Permian Basin, the nation’s most active play, remained at 303 rigs, according to the most recent Baker Hughes Co. rig count.

The plays in Oklahoma included the Ardmore Woodford where there was a loss of one rig, leaving only one in the play The Arkoma Woodford remained at two rigs while the Cana Woodford count grew one to 21 rigs.

The Granite Wash count fell one to three rigs and the Mississippian, based on the Baker Hughes count, continued for another week with no reported active drilling.

Of the other plays, the Eagle Ford remained at 48 rigs, the Marcellus count grew one to 24 rigs, the Haynesville fell one to 32 rigs and the Williston Basin count was unchanged at 35 rigs.

The Barnett in north Texas remained at two rigs and the number of rigs in the D-J Basin fell one to 7 rigs. The Utica saw no change with a count of 10 rigs.
