A four-day hearing is underway in New Mexico to consider banning “forever” chemicals from oil and gas operations.
New Mexico’s Oil Conservation Commission is holding the hearing that started Tuesday. The target of the proposed ban are PFAS chemicals or Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances which are sometimes part of the chemicals used in the fracking process of oil and gas wells.
The Albuquerque Journal reported the proposed ban was the idea of WildEarth Guardians, an environmental group.
