FBI arrests man who intended to bomb a Tennessee energy plant

A man who reportedly planned to bomb a Tennessee energy substation by using drones carrying explosives is in custody.

Just the News reported FBI agents foined the possible drone attack at the energy plant in Nashville. The suspect is identified as 24-year old Skyler Philippi who is charged with attempted use of a weapon of mass destructon and attempted destruction of an energy facility.

“As charged, Skyler Philippi believed he was moments away from launching an attack on a Nashville energy facility to further his violent white supremacist ideology – but the FBI had already compromised his plot,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “This case serves as yet another warning to those seeking to sow violence and chaos in the name of hatred by attacking our country’s critical infrastructure: the Justice Department will find you, we will disrupt your plot, and we will hold you accountable.”

WSMV TV reported Philippi’s undoing was when he revealed his plans to a confidential source.

The station reported that Philippi was at the rear of a vehicle with the drone powered up and the explosive device armed and located adjacent to the drone.
