A new report shows employment in the energy services sector across the U.S. remained steady, whether it’s in the oil patch, installing solar panels or constructing wind farms.
The Energy Workforce & Technology Council released its monthly jobs report which included Oklahoma, ranked third highest in the nation when it comes to energy employment.
Total jobs in the sector reported at 654,062 in October 2024, reflecting a slight decrease of 1,739 positions from September, according to preliminary data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics  and analysis conducted by the Energy Workforce & Technology Council.
At the national level, job creation slowed to its weakest pace since late 2020. However, the unemployment rate held at 4.1%, in line with expectations. Economists have taken note of increased hurricane activity, noting its impact on overall employment. With Hurricane Rafael forcing over 23% of U.S. Gulf of Mexico oil output offline, the storm’s impacts are likely reflected in recent job numbers within the energy services sector.
“The energy services sector continues to demonstrate resilience amid significant challenges,” said Energy Workforce President Molly Determan. “With an incoming Presidential Administration, our industry remains focused on delivering critical energy solutions, supporting economic stability, and expanding opportunities for American workers. We are committed to unleashing American energy, driving job growth, and investing in the skilled workforce needed to power our nation’s future.”
