Buc-ee’s goes to court

  • November 26, 2024

Buc-ee’s, the convenience store outlet with stores throughout the country but not in Oklahoma, has gone to court again over a firm with a similar name.

The Texas-based company has sued Duckees, a convenience and liquor store in Kansas City.

It’s not the first such kind of lawsuit brought by Buck-ee’s. In 2018, it won a federal lawsuit against Choke Canyon’s finger-licking alligator logo that promoted its barbecue foods. A jury agreed with Buck-ee’s that the alligator promotion had unlawfully invaded the beaver’s arena. The suit also argued the alligator logo, pictured against a round yellow backdrop, was too similar to Buck-ee’s buck-toothed beaver. Buck-ee’s also contended Choke Canyon “illegallly mimicked its in store offerings including clean bathrooms.

Buck-ee’s with at least one store in Colorado with plans to build a seccond also has one store with plans for a second in Arkansas. But it won’t build one in Oklahoma.
