Evergy, the largest electric utility in the state of Kansas announced this week plans to build two more natural gas plants in the next six years.

The company said it will build combined-cycle natural gas plants — each with a 705-megawatt capacity — in Sumner and Reno counties in 2029 and 2030, respectively.

Evergy, which has its Kansas operations headquarters in Topeka, announced Monday that it will build two new natural gas power plants.

Hutchinson is the county seat for Reno County while Wellington in southern Kansas is the Sumner County seat.

The Kansas Reflector reported the projects will create 500 construction jobs and 165 permanent jobs.
