Broadband Office to launch another project in Oklahoma

Another project will be launched into parts of northeast Oklahoma by the state’s Broadband Office.

This time, the project will involve the introduction of high-speed internet service in rural Creek County north of Sapulpa. A launching ceremony will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. where the state funds will allow an expansion project with internet service provider FiberLink to improve access to high-speed internet service.

FiberLink was formed in 2014 as a specialized companion to its commonly owned sister company, AirLink Internet Services, LLC, a leading wireless internet service provider. Since startup, FiberLink has installed 5,481 fiber miles of underground fiber connecting AirLink’s network of towers and providing Fiber-to-the-Home capability for thousands of residents in Sapulpa, Kellyville and rural areas of Creek County.

The project is one of some 175 that are funded by the ARPA State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund and ARPA Capital Projects Fund that will greatly improve high-speed internet access throughout the state, but especially in rural Oklahoma. Awarded grants administered by the Oklahoma Broadband Office will connect more than 66,000 homes and businesses in 57 of the state’s 77 counties.

Joining Broadband Office Executive Director Mike Sanders will be Mike Whelan, CEO of FiberLink; Craig Henderson, the mayor of Sapulpa; and state Reps. Melissa Provenzano and Mark Lawson.

The morning ceremony will be held at 16856 W. 81 St. South in Sapulpa.
