A stalled oil rail line and a Colorado billionaire’s ties to a US Supreme Court Justice

Mention the name Phillip Anschutz  in Oklahoma and some residents might remember when the billionaire from Colorado once upon a time bought The Oklahoman newspaper then sold it.

Mention his name in other circles and his name is brought up in connection with a fight for approval of an 88-mile rail line designed to carry oil out of Utah and across western Colorado. The billionaire’s Anschutz Exploration Corporation, an oil and gas company based in Denver, is among those challenging an environmental review that is holding up the rail line.

Anschutz also has deep ties to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch where the challenge has gone, according to the publication, The Lever. Its most recent article claims that Anschutz might use his political connections with Gorsuch to gut environmental law, all in the sake of boosting the Anschutz Exploration Corporation.
