State House Committee to study Kiamichi River and controversial hydro-electric plant idea

The issue of a proposed hydro-electric power plant on the Kiamichi River will be the focus of a state House Energy and Natural Resources Committee study in October.
The Committee plans to take up the power plant, a proposal opposed by tribes, members of congress and some in the state legislature, during a hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
The Committee plans two major topics to be studied that day, beginning with “Balancing Solar in Oklahoma’s “All of the Above” Energy Plan.”
The Kiamichi River in Southeast Oklahoma will be the subject of the second study and was proposed by Reps. West, Humphrey and Dempsey.
The meeting will live streamed over the internet.

The same committee will also hold an Oct. 22 meeting at 1 p.m. where it will study Energy Generation and Oklahoma’s Wind Industry Tax Policy.
