Rig counts in Oklahoma and US slipped in past week

 

The number of oil and gas rigs in Oklahoma declined by one in the past week, according to the latest Baker Hughes rig count released on Friday.

Oklahoma’s count went from 39 a week ago to 38 in the past week. A year ago, the state’s number of oil and gas rigs actively drilling for new energy sources totaled 39.

The U.S. count fell by one, leaving 582 oil and gas rigs across the country. The number of oil rigs was unchanged at 483 while the number of gas rigs fell one to 94. The U.S. count is still 50 fewer than a year ago when there were 632 rigs. In the past year, the decline, according to Baker Hughes, included 30 oil rigs and 19 gas rigs.

The number of offshore rigs is unchanged at 19.

Oklahoma’s count of 38 compared to Texas which stayed unchanged at 274 while  New Mexico gained one to reach 106. North Dakota continue with a count of 33 and Louisiana was unchanged at 40.

Colorado’s count declined one to 12 rigs while the Red Top Rig Report showed Kansas with a count of 25 rigs, one less than a week ago. Ohio stayed at 9 rigs and Pennsylvania’s count fell two to 16. Utah continued with 12 rigs while West Virginia added two rigs to reach a total of 8. Wyoming remained at 14 rigs.

Of the oil and gas plays, the Permian Basin count grew by one to 306. The Williston continued with 34 rigs. The Haynesville stayed at 32 and the Marcellus continued with 23. The Eagle Ford count was unchanged at 48.

The Ardmore Woodford count was unchanged at two rigs while the Arkoma Woodford stayed at one rig. The Cana Woodford saw no change with 19 rigs. The Barnett play remained with no reported rig avtivity.

The D-J Niobrara count fell one to 8 rigs and the Granite Wash saw no change with a count of four rigs. The Mississippian remained with no reported drilling activity, according to Baker Hughes. The Utica stayed at 9 rigs.
