The Beutler and Son Rodeo Company is still supplying horses to rodeos despite the deaths of a big part of its herd. Stock for Friday’s rodeo at the Oklahoma State Fair came from the Elk City operation.
A tainted feed mixup earlier this year caused the deaths of about one-third of the Beutler herd. KOCO-TV reports the family had a choice: saddle up or give up.
Beutler and Son Rodeo Company is in its 96th year of providing some of the best stock in the country. It bought some new horses, currently has 150 on hand, and has supplied the stock for several rodeos this summer.
The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry is investigating the case, with samples of the feed still being tested at the lab.
