Not only did Oklahoma see a gain of oil and gas rigs in the past week, so did the U.S., according to the latest Baker Hughes rig count released on Friday.
Baker Hughes reported that Oklahoma gained 3 rigs in the past week, reaching a total of 41. The latest total compared to 39 rigs reported one year earlier.
Nationally, the count increased by 8 rigs, reaching a total of 590. The gain included 5 more rigs for a total of 488 rigs drilling for oil. The number of gas rigs grew by 3 for a total of 97. The number of offshore rigs also increased by two to 21.
The latest U.S. count is still 51 fewer than a year ago when the nation recorded 641 oil and gas rigs. The decline included 27 oil rigs and 24 gas rigs.
Texas of course leads the nation with a total of 274 rigs, same as a week earlier. New Mexico added a rig to reach 107 while North Dakota was unchanged at 33. Louisiana added three to reach 43 while Colorado stayed at 12 rigs.
The Red Top Rig Report showed the count in Kansas fell by one, leaving 24 active rigs in the state. Ohio continued with 9 rigs and the count in Pennsylvania declined two to 14 rigs. Utah’s count of 12 was the same as a week earlier and West Virginia saw a gain of two rigs to reach 10 total. The count in Wyoming jumped 3 for a total of 17 oil and gas rigs.
The total Permian Basin count was unchanged at 306 rigs while the Williston stayed at 34 and the Eagle Ford was unchanged at 48 rigs. The Haynesville added a rig to reach 33 and the Marcellus did the same, growing to 24.
The Ardmore Woodford stayed at two and the Arkoma Woodford remained at one active rig. The drilling activity in the Cana Woodford was unchanged at 9 rigs.
The D-J Basin stayed at 8 and the Granite Wash added a rig for a total of 5. The Mississippian continued with no reported drilling activity, based on the Baker Hughes rig count.
The activity in the Utica play was unchanged with 9 rigs.
