Alan Armstrong, President and CEO at Williams Cos. recently told a national conference that the addition of a dozen new projects is necessary to meet the nation’s growing demand for natural gas.

He told those on hand at the Barclays CEO Energy-Power Conference Williams plans to add 4.2 billion cubic feet a day of natural gas capacity with 12 new projects through 2027.

The Williams Cos. newsletter also explained the expansion follows the company’s completion of 17 projects, which added approximately 5 bcf/d of capacity from 2018 to 2023.

A billion cubic feet of natural gas can supply about five million US homes per day.

Among the upcoming projects is the 1.6 bcf/d Southeast Supply Enhancement project which is expected to be operating by the fourth quarter of 2027.

Armstrong said the $1.45 billion Southeast Supply Enhancement project would help meet growing demand from residential, commercial and industrial customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, including fast-growing demand for electricity from data centers.

“I can tell you we have our hands very full right now trying to keep up with the number of opportunities that are coming at us right now,” Armstrong said about data centers.

“We’re really excited about how we’re positioned around this, the land positions we have, the co-location with fiber, the gas resources, as well as the carbon capture that we have in some of those areas.”
