Here’s how rig numbers play out in the country’s oil and gas plays

 

Of the nation’s various oil and gas plays, the Permian Basin remained strongest in the past week, based on the number of active rigs as reported by Baker Hughes Co.

The Permian Basin count declined one rig to 306 rigs active in west Texas and southeast New Mexico. The Eagle Ford of south Texas was the second most active play with 48 rigs, same as a week earlier.

The Williston in North Dakota and South Dakota was unchanged at 34 rigs.

The Haynesville, the gas rig region mostly in Louisiana, remained at 33 rigs while the Marcellus saw no change with 24 rigs.

The Ardmore Woodford stayed at 2 rigs and the Artkoma Woodford was unchanged with only one active rig. The Cana Woodford count fell one to 18 rigs

The D-J Basin stayed at 7 rigs and the Granite Wash count slipped one, leaving four active rigs. The Mississippian in Oklahoma and southern Kansas remained without any reported rig activity, based on the Baker Hughes report.

The Utica continued with a count of 9 rigs.
