With U.S. markets suffering some of their worst losses in two years during a selloff of global stock markets, crude oil prices fell.
So did Oklahoma energy stocks as many suffered losses of 5% and 6% while one firm dropped 10% during the day’s trading. The “R” word, recession, might have played a continuing role in what happened, as did fears that Iran will retaliate for the assassination of a Hamas leader in Tehran.
The US benchmark, West Texas Intermediate crude dropped 58 cents or 0.79% at $72.94 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
The global standard, Brent crude, finished down 51 cents or 0.66% at $76.30 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
