After more than 50 years of supplying electricity in northwest New Mexico, the coal-fired San Juan Generating Station exists only as a giant pile of rubble.
The four 400-foot tall smokestacks that could be seen for miles around Farmington, came down in a heap on Saturday as demolition was carried out. In the end, it was concern over environmental pollution that led to the decision to end operations.
