The number of oil and gas rigs actively pursuing new production in the U.S. dropped by three to 586 in the past week, according to the latest rig count released by the Baker Hughes Co.
At the same time, Oklahoma’s count remained at 35 with no change. A year ago, the state recorded 39 active oil and gas rigs.
The U.S. count indicated no change in the number of oil rigs at 482 while there was a decline of three gas rigs to 98. As of this past week, the nation’s rig count is 73 below the 659 recorded a year earlier. Over the past year, the decline included a drop of 43 oil rigs and 30 gas rigs.
Canada saw an increase of 8 rigs total to reach 219 including a gain of 6 oil rigs for a total of 150 and 2 gas rigs to reach 69.
Oklahoma’s count of 35 compares to Texas where the count slipped by two to 274. New Mexico was unchanged at 108 and North Dakota remained at 35. Louisiana’s count slipped one to 40 rigs and Colorado saw its number fall one to 13 rigs.
The Red Top Rig report indicated Kansas added two rigs for a tota lof 20. Pennsylvania’s count dropped one to 20 rigs. Unchanged was Ohio with 11 rigs and West Virginia remained at 5. Wyoming added one rig to reach 12 rigs.
The count in the Permian Basin dropped by one to 303 and the Williston was unchanged at 36. The Eagle Ford remained at 50 and the Haynesville count dropped by on e to 34 rigs. The Marcellus slipped one to 24.
The Ardmore Woodford remained at one rig and the count in the Arkoma Woodford stayed at two rigs. The Cana Woodford was also unchanged with 17 rigs.
The D-J Basin fell one to 9 rigs and the Granite Wash continued with 5 rigs. The Mississippian continued another week with no reported rig activity, based on the Baker Hughes report released Friday.
The Utica was unchanged at 11 rigs. The Barnett continued for another week with no reported drilling activity.
