As the Middle East saber rattling intensified on Monday with Iran threatening to launch more missiles against Israel, crude oil prices shot up more than 3%. At the same time, some Oklahoma energy stocks dropped.
The gain for crude oil prices was the fifth consecutive session as the U.S. sent a guided missile submarine to the Middle East in light of the most recent threats on Israel by Iran and allies.
West Texas Intermediate crude rose $3.22 or 4.2% a barrel to $80.06 on the New York Mercantile Exchange—the first $80 degree level in several weeks.
Brent crude gained $2.64 or 3.3% a barrel to close at $82.30 on ICE Futures Europe.
September natural gas fell 3 cents to $1.94 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Monday proved to be another “split trading day” for Oklahoma energy stocks. Canoo plunged 13% while Empire Petroleum gained 6% and NGL Energy Partners dropped more than 4%.
