The nation saw a gain of two rigs in the past week to reach 588, reported Baker Hughes Co. on Friday.
Oklahoma’s count was unchanged from the previous week with a total of 35 rigs. A year ago, the state had 40 active oil and gas rigs.
Nationally, Baker Hughes indicated the U.S. count included a gain of 3 oil rigs for a total of 485 while the number of gas rigs dropped by one to 197. The offshore rig count in the past week declined by one to 19.
The total national count is down 66 from a year ago when the U.S. reported 654 active oil and gas rigs, according to Baker Hughes. Over the past year, there was a decline of 40 oil rigs and 26 gas rigs.
Oklahoma’s count of 35 compared to Texas where the count rose by two to 276 and New Mexico where the number declined one to 107 rigs. North Dakota was unchanged at 35 and Louisiana’s count slipped two to 38.
Colorado gained one to 14 while Kansas, according to the Red Top Rig Report, added a rig to reach 30. Ohio’s count dropped by one to 10 rigs and Pennsylvania’s count grew one to 21. Utah remained at 13 rigs and West Virginia was unchanged at 5. Wyoming added two for a total of 14 rigs.
The Permian Basin, stretching from West Texas into southeast New Mexico added a rig for a total of 304. The Williston remained at 36 and the Eagle Ford stayed at 50. The Haynesville count slipped two to 32 and the Marcellus grew one to 25 rigs.
The Ardmore Wooddford stayed at one rig and the Arkoma Woodford stayed at two rigs. The Cana Woodford was unchanged at 17. The Barnett continued anothe week with no drilling activity.
The D-J Basin count grew one to 10 rigs. The Granite Wash continued with 5 rigs and the Mississippian play still has no recorded drilling activity, according to Baker Hughes. The Utica count fell one to 10 rigs.
