Sugar beets at heart of $28 million biogas project in Wyoming

A $28 million plan is being launched in Wyoming to create biogas from sugar beets.

The company behind the effort is Cowboy Clean Fuels LLC based in Denver. It has the clean energy operation  under construction in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin after receiving $13 million in venture capital money from  a former Texas oilman and his investment group.

Cowboy State Daily reports the company also has received matching grant money from the state of Wyoming.

The company has now secured nearly $28 million in venture capital funding and matching grant money from the state of Wyoming, CEO Ryan Waddingon told Cowboy State Daily.

The latest round of investment is needed for the commercial launch of Cowboy Clean Fuels’ technology, licensed from the University of Wyoming’s Center for Biogenic Natural Gas Research, which will produce renewable natural gas from agricultural byproducts at commercial levels.
