The movement by some Oklahomans for rail passenger service from Kansas to Oklahoma City appears to be part of similar efforts by the organization, the U.S. High Speed Rail Association. But not the route proposed by proponents in Oklahoma.
The Kansas to Oklahoma link is included in a newly-released map by the Association, showing it would be part of a 17,000-mile network across the U.S. Rail-passenger supporters in Oklahoma have urged for the development of rail service between Newton, Kansas and Oklahoma City where Amtrak’s Heartland Flyer runs daily service to Fort Worth, Texas.
However, the map shown above does not include the Newton to OKC link. Rather, the map displays a high-speed link from Kansas City to Tulsa and on to Oklahoma City.
Newsweek reported the Association has proposed a comprehensive, countrywide system for rail passenger service with speeds of 220 miles an hour. The U.S. High Speed Rail Association is an independent nonprofit organization advocating for high-speed rail development from coast to coast.
