Despite weak Friday, crude oil made a week high gain

Friday saw crude oil prices settle lower but still recording a gain for the week.

What prompted the drop? Observers suggested it was in reaction to a survey showing deteriorating U.S. consumer sentiment. Still, for the week, crude oil prices finished 4% higher. It was their highest weekly gain since April.

West Texas Intermediate crude dropped 17 cents to finish at $78.54 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Brent crude closed down 13 cents and settled at $82.62 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.

July natural gas fell 8 cents to $2.88 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Friday was another painful trading day for Oklahoma energy stocks as they suffered losses. Canoo, the EV maker dropped 17% and Empire Petroleum finished down more than 5%.

Other stocks, according to the Texas Energy Report, had the same kind of depressing day.

Kinder Morgan (KMI) down 0.17 at 19.59 – change 0.87%

Marathon Oil Corp. (MRO) down 0.38 at 27.30 – change 1.38%

NOV Inc. (NOV) down 0.33 at 17.50 – change 1.83%

Occidental Petroleum (OXY) up 0.04 at 59.84 – change 0.06%

Phillips 66 (PSX) down 0.91 at 136.76 – change 0.67%
