Oil and gas industry helped develop new oilfield waste rules in Texas

Christi Craddick, Commissioner of the Texas Railroad Commission, Chairman Wayne Christian, and Commissioner Jim Wright listen during an RRC hearing in the William B. Travis Building in Austin on Nov. 30, 2021.

State regulators in Texas face criticism for allowing the oil and gas industry to help develop newly-released hazardous oilfield waste rules over the past two years.

What upsets critics is that the public only gets a month to comment on the new rules while industry representatives started giving their input back in 2021. They not only gave their input but oilfield waste executives and consultanted helped write the regulations for the Texas Railroad Commission.
