Governor’s Water Conference to focus on climate’s impact on state’s water sources

The agenda is revealed for next month’s 2023 Oklahoma Governor’s Water Conference and Research Symposium.

The November 29 event will begin with an opening session featuring Jennifer Castillo, Chair of the Oklahoma Water Resources Board. Gov. Kevin Stitt has been invited to speak but there is no confirmation he will attend.

A panel featuring Perspectives from Oklahoma Legislators will include Ken McQueen, Oklahoma Secretary of Energy and Environment and Shannon Spurlock, Senior Researcher with the Pacific Institute.

A second session will focus on Collaborative Water Supply Planning Across Sectors and Understanding and Improving Climate Resiliency.

Oklahoma Water Pioneer Awards will be presented during a noon luncheon which will be followed by video messages from Oklahoma’s Congressional Delegation.

An afternoon session will deal with Flood Mitigation Planning and Student Water Research Lightning Talks.

Another afternoon session will deal with Advancing Groundwater Solutions Today featuring Kevin Wagner of the Oklahoma Water Resources Center.

The following morning, November 30, Oklahoma Water for 2060 Excellence Awards will be presented. There will also be a discussion on Perspectives from Business & Industry Organization leaders featuring Blayne Arthur, Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture and Julie Cunningham, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Water Resources Board.

The last session will be at mid-morning on the topic of Making the Case for Investment in Water Resources and Groundwater Assessment and Outreach.
