An explanation and correction about our story last week regarding an Illinois court ruling that halted construction of the Grainbelt Express Transmission Line in Illinois.
The5th Appellate Court of Illinois issued a recent ruling that said the Grain Belt Express Transmission Line cannot move forward in Illinois. The ruling does not apply to the project in Kansas and Missouri.
Phase 1 construction of the project that carries electricity produced by wind power in southwest Kansas across Missouri and to Illinois, is to start at the end of 2024. A company official explained to OK Energy Today that more than 90% of land acquisition for Phase 1 has been completed through voluntary agreements.
Dia Kuykendall, Director of Public Affairs Transmission at Invenergy said it shows the company’s commitment to industry-leading landowner protections.
Farm groups in Illinois challenged the project, a challenge that resulted in the court ruling.
