June heat wave in Texas caused release of pipeline emissions

A sign warns passersby of oil and gas pipeline in the area south of San Antonio, TX known as the Eagle Ford Oil Patch.

Reports indicate the June heat wave that hit West Texas also resulted in exteme releases of hundreds of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

As the Texas Tribune reported, the high temperatures caused compressor stations along gas pipelines to dial back or shut down which resulted in dangerous pressure buildup in the pipes and forced operators to release hundreds of tons of natural gas through emergency valves.
