CVR refinery operator to fight EPA decision to reject waivers of biofuels mandates

Yes, the CVR Refinery in Wynnewood was one of the small refineries that received an EPA rejection last week of a bid for waivers from biofuel blending mandates.

And CVR plans to put up a fight over the decision by the Environmental Protection Agency.

“We will continue to fight for our rights that we believe Wynnewood (Oklahoma refinery) is entitled to,” CVR Energy Chief Executive David Lamp said during the company’s first quarter earnings call in May, before the EPA’s decision last week.

Reuters reported CVR and other refiners plan to file a lawsuit challenging the Biden administration’s rejection of waivers to exempt oil refiners from biofuel blending mandates which has left some on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars.

Initially, the EPA did not identify the 15 small refinery operators in announcing its decision.
