Tuesday brought weak changes in crude oil prices as investors learned of positive economic data about No. 2 oil consumer China. It dampened some existing worries that U.S. interest rates could be raised in the coming weeks.
West Texas Intermediate crude closed up 3 cents or 0.04% at $80.86 a barrel in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude lost 1 cent or 0.01% to close at $85.25 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
The news out of China was that its economy grew faster than expected in the first quarter and its oil refinery throughput reached record levels in March.
Mixed trading made up the Oklahoma energy stocks performances for the day, with Mammoth Energy and OG&E each tumbling more than 2%, while those that recorded gains did so with 1% or less increases.
Other energy stocks also had mixed performances according to the Texas Energy Report.
